In this house by Edwin Lutyens Veere Grenney created this astonishingly beautiful room.

There are some delightful components to this room: lacquered metal armchairs from the 1950s; a sculpture by Donald Judd; a bookcase by Jacques Adnet and side tables by Pierre Chareau; rush matting on the floor, but for me the most beautiful part is the small bowl, possibly by Lucy Rie, sitting on the wooden table by the sofa.

  4. There is something truly gorgeous about a Lutyens house. They may be a little 'Country Life' for some people and somewhat derivitave, but the light, textures and colours are the winning examples every time.

  5. I agree, John. Truly wonderful. We have a friend who lives in a sub-divided Lutyens house near Eastbourne and the house from outside is beautiful - hard to tell on the inside. The garden is allegedly by Jeckyl but that is also hard to tell. I love Lutyens' houses. Derivative? Who gives a ..... and what isn't?
